not forgiving of everyone's fears. the days turn into months, the months turn into years. so just for the moment, let's be still.

there are reasons for why joseph is reluctant to attend social gatherings -- reasons such as the current situation he finds himself in, clutching one bruised shin and staring helplessly at skinned knees. he decides, rather swiftly, that mini-golf is simply not worth it.[break][break]
it had been, up till the moment his colleague from the coffee shop had let his golf club fly and assault the innocent companion that was himself, a rather peaceful experience; he had, in fact, been beginning to think of it as a fairly pleasant experience. the observatory left lacking in its scenic views, and though a far cry from actually flying, was still remarkable. the game, while labelled as a social sport, granted him the opportunity to simply let the rest of the group converse among themselves; he commented once or twice, but never quite drew enough attention to himself for the subject of their conversation to deviate from whatever it was.[break][break]
still, still, as fate would have it, the errant golf club came flying towards him, whacked him mercilessly about the shins, with just enough force to send him skidding down the side of the small incline on the final course ( an incline that, with his luck, of course, had to be the only path in this godforsaken game to be paved in rough stone ).[break][break]
he had excused himself fairly quickly after that, a polite smile and dip of the head as he left his colleagues to their little game, and limped off to find a bench to sit on and silently lament his miseries.[break][break]
which leads him to his current predicament: apparently, optimism does not pay off. he had hoped the pain would simply fade, but now, as he watches, little spots of red begin to blossom across his knees, and a suspiciously golf-club-shaped bruise purples against pale skin. gingerly, he stretches it out -- a sharp pain lances through his knee -- he resigns himself to simply sitting there, frowning slightly at it. frankly, he's been through much worse, but without the crushing weight of deadlines or assignments bearing down upon him, movement is simply not worth it. [break][break]
he hears footsteps approach, and a shadow falls across him. joseph looks up. blinks. a coherent explanation eludes him for the moment, and so instead he says, awkwardly: "mini-golf, amirite?"
