It's believed that her ancestors were pulled onto the island like many others that came after and chose to settle down and start a family once they realized escape was impossible. As such, Penny is used to all sorts of creatures and people. “Newcomers” don't even surprise her anymore. [attr="class","rcappleft2"] [attr="class","rcappleft3"] [attr="class","rcappleft4"] [attr="class","rcapplefttitle"]CHARACTER ABILITIES [attr="class","rcappleft51"] Marked not by her abilities but her lack thereof. Penelope is a human, and a fragile one at that. Not only can she not throw fireballs or raise the dead, but she can't even muster up the courage to ever leave her own apartment. Goodness, you're lucky if she leaves her room, and that's only to wander about for food and a bathroom break. [/PTab={background-color:transparent;width:478px;height:612px;padding:0px!important;margin:-23px -3px -3px -3px;}] [PTab= [attr="class","rcapptab2"]BIO ][attr="class","rcappleft6"] [attr="class","rcappleft61"] Your first love is a keyboard in your hands, the monitor before your eyes, and the computer that makes it all run. It's your birthday present when you're young, a celebratory gift for surviving for the first seven years of your life, and while your father seems hesitant as to let the expensive piece of equipment run rampant under the dirty hands of an energetic child, you know immediately to treat it better than the stuff animals you leave in tatters across the house. This toy cannot be washed and cannot be mended with glue. This toy is your only portal outside of your little island home. While other children go outside to play, your parents find that you spend more and more time indoors, eyes glued to the screen and the truckloads of information that it serves to provide. Efforts to get you to move from your spot at the desk are fruitless; you'll huff and you'll puff, and even when they place you outside against your will, you don't move to play with the others. What good is an imagination when you can find the practical answers with a few easy keystrokes? Why play tag with the other children when you can solve puzzles found through a quick search in your favored search engine? Perhaps it's the death of your infantile ways, a consumption of your childhood that leaves you starved for creativity and sociability later in life – but it's your safe haven all the same, and you run to it like a toddler runs to its mother.[break][break] You learn all the ins and outs of a computer – what goes where, what each little bit does. When your first love dies, you build yourself a new one, a better one, cheaper and stronger than the original. Others find their strengths in the arts, in sports, in talking to one another like real human beings (although most of them, you have to remind yourself, aren't really human), but your craft has always been and will always be in electronics. You're so excited for new parts and new advancements that you forget to live your life outside of them. Nothing brings you joy quite like your precious computer, so you don't indulge in them at all.[break][break] (The world is slipping away from you, bit by bit, and you let it.)[break][break] High school passed you by like an autumn breeze (simple, so simple, mindless work that a monkey could pass with ease), but where others are working toward independence and self-reliance, you find yourself once again on the hunt for the grandest computer you can build. Like you ever really stopped. The one hitch in your latest lead is simple. It's the fact that what you so desperately covet is also coveted by someone else – someone who nearly gets to it first. You fight tooth and nail (literally) for your deserved piece of equipment for what feels like an hour before, finally, as the Bigger Man, you step down and leave it to him. A better model will be coming out in three months tops, anyway. Parker, as you later discover his name to be, is not actually as abhorrent as you'd initially thought him to be. The revelation comes to you slowly, learned bit by bit over fated run-ins and pre-destined encounters, but it seems like just the time when your mother is finally kicking you out of the family apartment that you both decide to split your rent fifty-fifty on an apartment in the island's massive building of your own. He's a fellow electronic junky, as well as competition you didn't think you'd ever have in the Great Race to make the fastest computer, and it's not long before you're inseparable. You have no need for the outside world come the time your lease is locked and loaded. Your room becomes your tiny world, and your monitor becomes the window to another, far more vast than yours could ever be. (You're scared, truthfully. You step outside and feel your heart leap into your throat, choking, suffocating. There are eyes on you everywhere, and how does Parker live like this?)[break][break] Shortly after the apartment comes Percy's invitation to it, and while you detest the outside world from which he comes, he turns out to be a ray of sunshine that you hadn't known you so desperately needed. Parker is a delight... in some backwards meaning of the word, and you wouldn't trade him for the world, but there's a certain softness that he lacks.[break][break] Together, you're the perfect trio. How easily you all slip into each other's lives. Without them, you're nothing, and without you, their lives would be incomplete.
