Nobody quite knows where exactly he was at that point, but it seems that he may still have been trapped in Edgar Allen Poe's novel. [attr="class","rcappleft2"] [attr="class","rcappleft3"] [attr="class","rcappleft4"] [attr="class","rcapplefttitle"]CHARACTER ABILITIES [attr="class","rcappleft51"] FOR THE TAINTED SORROW.While human, Chuuya is an 'ability user' from his own world, a possessor of a unique supernatural power. His is named For the Tainted Sorrow; it grants him control over the gravity and mass/density of himself and any environment or objects he comes into physical contact with.[break][break] This manipulation of gravity vectors allows him to strike with destructive power far beyond that of an ordinary human - easily able to crush or destroy building infrastructure and other sound objects. He can also walk on walls or on ceilings, and sometimes uses it to make sure his hat doesn't fall off his head.[break][break] CORRUPTION.The ultimate form of Chuuya's ability is called Corruption. When activated (by the chanting of a specific poetry verse - it's his personal quote/text), his power literally corrupts his body, and he temporarily loses hold of most of his sanity. He will fly without heed, expending dark energy in massive amounts, firing off miniature black holes that consume and destroy all they touch - until he would die.[break][break] The only time he can safely use this is in combination with Dazai Osamu's No Longer Human ability - where Dazai can nullify the progress of Corruption before it consumes Chuuya's entire life force. A similar magical nullifier would probably also do the trick.[break][break] MARTIAL ARTS.Even in the absence of his gravity manipulation, Chuuya has prodigious martial arts skills. He was dubbed the most talented martial artist of Yokohama's Port Mafia -- that is to say, of the deadliest mafia group of that city. He is frighteningly fast, fit and powerful for a human, dangerous even when his ability is not in play.[break][break] He is also capable of using guns, though his preferred weapon is a shiv. [/PTab={background-color:transparent;width:478px;height:612px;padding:0px!important;margin:-23px -3px -3px -3px;}] [PTab= [attr="class","rcapptab2"]BIO ][attr="class","rcappleft6"] [attr="class","rcappleft61"] - in his world, nobody really knew where abilities came from. they'd manifest in rare individuals, usually at some point in adolescence, bringing as much misfortune as benefit to their wielder.his was tainted sorrow, and could have been triggered by the grief of losing his younger brother. illness took him, one which his father, a military medic, may have been able to save him from if he had not been far away from home. the man himself returned in a decorated casket soon after, and any remaining relatives the nine-year-old had absolved themselves of responsibility over him, turning to squabble over the doctor's inheritance and wealth.[break][break] handballed between a couple of foster homes and orphanages, chuuya couldn't be retained due to his inconsolable rage and violence, magnified by the inexplicable damage he caused to people and property. had he killed a carer or staff member? he couldn't remember much any more from that dark, early time... his family was ripped away from him, and what else did a child have to live for?[break][break] - for all the incredible things a gift could do, it always had drawbacks. some skills worked well in tandem with others, to cover each other's weaknesses.the drawback of his was that it could kill him. he discovered that the hard way, when he finally spoke aloud the ominous, mysterious incantation on instinct that would unleash complete corruption upon himself. he'd got himself caught up in a deadly gangfight after trying to find shelter under one group. had it been worth it? not really, but what was there to live for, anyway? caught unawares and knifed, his unpolished gravity skills even less handy when he was so incapacitated, he'd at least end his life with a big bang.[break][break] corruption took all the pain away and unleashed a barrage of his heartache and fury upon whoever got in his way. everything went crimson, from the pulsing aura of gravitons clustering to him in the billions, to the haemorrhage of internal structures that led to streams of blood exiting his every orifice. it devoured his life force and sanity, and if this was how it would end, it wouldn't be so bad...[break][break] except he was saved by a boy his age, the first fellow ability-user he would ever meet. dazai osamu was his perfect foil, wielder of a complete ability-neutralising gift who seemed like he could exist solely to shut down his rampaging corruption. when the top criminal organisation of yokohama descended on the scene to quell the clashing thugs ruining their city's order, it was almost as if they knew they would be able to collect two gifted gems.[break][break] - some could be passed from parent to child, the way izumi kyouka had received hers (though imperfectly) from her mother, where it lodged through her cell phone.had he possibly inherited his from his father when the man died? he didn't know. he didn't know. he'd never properly known his father. all he had left of him was a faded old hat of his, which he wore or carried with him everywhere.[break][break] dazai was taken into the tutelage of one executive, ougai mori, while chuuya was led away by a woman, ozaki kouyou. at first he'd only refer to her respectfully, ane-san, as fitting for any powerful yakuza lady, but after a time, it took on an affectionate, familial tone. she was only four years older than him. big sister. haughty and strict, she taught him things that he'd missed out on without having a mother around.[break][break] she taught him how to dress and look after himself, how to cook and clean, brushed up his literacy skills, guided him on lessons and hired for him tutors. he learned, too, the ways of the mafia, and was trained to exhaustion until he could fully understand and wield his ability as well as perform various martial arts styles, in which he demonstrated proficiency above all else. his physical fitness exceeded his mental capabilities by far, though he did manage to find a strange love in words, penning precise and patterned poetry. at times his descriptions were simple and scant, and at other times they flooded free.[break][break] - could the power of gifts be abused? was a person's worth defined by the capabilities of their unique talent?chuuya didn't know, and in the end, it didn't matter. his worldview became simplistic, in that the port mafia respected and appreciated him and became his new family. people to drink and dance and joke and quarrel with, united under the dark iron fist of an extremely capable and intelligent leader (mori succeeded the sickly old boss, who'd left the organisation in shambles, rumours saying by a scalpel stab in the back, and those same whispers abounded soon afterward that he'd inevitably be surpassed by the terrifying genius of the teenage dazai).[break][break] his comrades died in the line of their dangerous work, and he would mourn anew every time. especially traumatic was the loss of a massive number of mafia members - as well as innocent citizens - to the curse of the young, demented yumeno kyusaku. little quelled his anguish except for alcohol and lavish excess, but depression, ever waxing and waning, would never truly depart. he would seek comfort, often physical, in the company of dazai, the only friend he thought would never leave. (no matter how much dazai tried to die, the reaper's scythe could never work on him.)[break][break] their rivalry gritted along ferociously too; chuuya was but a shadow in osamu's talented brilliance, his otherworldly starshine. the younger man became the youngest executive of the port mafia in history, and chuuya... chuuya was nothing. emptiness. dark matter. just the physical tug of gravity, invisible but truly weak, worthless. together they were dubbed soukoku, double black, the devastating duo.[break][break] one day, when they were eighteen, dazai simply vanished, and chuuya had to wonder if he was finally dead. words could not describe his hatred and disappointment for yet another loved person leaving his side. his empty executive slot was held open, perhaps mori wishing for a son's return, but when another position was freed too, chuuya and another man - who'd bought his way in - were promoted. all his hard work, all the things he'd done to keep himself and yokohama and his fellow members safe, was worth less than money, and even less than dazai's ghost.[break][break] - could they perhaps be created by whatever scott fitzgerald ultimately sought? could they be eradicated from this earth by whatever fyodor dostoyevsky was after?this limited power would have to satisfy him whether he liked it or not. and if he let loose the monster within him to feast upon his soul, this time there would be no inhuman mastermind to brush his bare skin and free him from his nightmares. (a few years later, dazai showed his stupid face to society, now a traitor serving the other side. not dead.) with the appearance of the weretiger and the seven-billion bounty on his head, events cannonballed into life.[break][break] the guild at one turn, with their eldritch horror lovecraft and his grapevine-wielding parnter steinbeck, necessitated a call by mori to bring soukoku back for a night. (he hated putting his trust in dazai, but he'd never stopped trusting him, and for the first time in years, his full tainted power flared, somehow cathartic.) at another, the rats of the house of the dead infected both the boss and the detective agency's leader, leading them into conflict.[break][break] for some reason, chuuya had to take the helm, however briefly (maybe his family trusted his strength and resolve the most), but one wrong move - fighting before thinking - sucked him into an ability realm where his own ability was nulled: the landscape of a novel conjured by poe and ranpo combined.[break][break] even with no gift, he would fight his way out.
