[attr="class,"oppost"] For how different Tomodachi Island was from the Japan she knew, let alone how different it was from Yamaku, it was heartening to know that libraries were largely the same. The section of braille and large-print books was, of course, much, much smaller, but that faintly musty smell of old, worn paper was proving to be a nostalgic tonic for the stresses of adjusting to a new life. All things considered, Hanako hadn't been here long; long enough to have a general idea of what to do for her job, and to get around without too much hassle. Still, she was a regular at the library, and had already checked out a large number of books, going through two to three novels a week thus far. Thus, the librarian's face and voice were already somewhat familiar, but Hanako had, up to that point, kept their interactions fairly minimal. Not because she wanted to. Loneliness gnawed at her daily, and it seemed they would have a lot of common ground. At a surface level, she even seemed nice. But, as she was told in therapy more than once, anxiety and fears didn't have to make sense. What was important was handling them one step at a time. In lieu of people, books made reasonable companions. After returning a pile of books - the sound of falling volumes distinctly audible in the virtually empty library - Hanako turned to browsing the aisles. Despite the selection, or maybe because of it, Hanako was struggling to find anything that caught her eye. It wasn't that she was a picky reader. but she was an avid one, across many genres. Most of the notable works she knew of had already been read. But, as expected for a library from another world, there were a lot of titles and authors she did not know even the first thing about. With one selected book pressed against her chest, Hanako browsed the titles and dist jackets, trying to find something that seemed appealing. The chosen book was Frankenstein; an old classic that any reader felt like they knew, but she had never really gotten around to reading the original. So all she knew was she was looking for something a little more light-hearted than that work of gothic horror. The shelves did seem a little thin and somewhat disorganized, though only to the degree that a creature of the library like herself would notice. It was probably about time for the shelves to be checked and restocked. Hanako breathed a faint sigh, as a promising-sounding novel soured her in the opening chapter. She replaced it on the shelf, careful to put it back exactly where it belonged. The titles were scanned again, but, at this point, they were beginning to blur together. @robin Notes: Blubebek. Hope this works.[newclass=.optop]background-color:#5c0b7c;width:500px;padding:30px 20px 30px 20px;[/newclass] [newclass=.oplyrics]font-family:courier new;font-size:8px;color:#fff;padding:10px 15px 10px 0px;border-right:solid 1px #fff;text-align:right;text-transform:uppercase;[/newclass] [newclass=.optext]font-family:arial;font-size:30px;font-weight:bold!important;text-transform:lowercase;color:#fff;letter-spacing:-3px;margin-left:10px;[/newclass] [newclass=.oppost]background-color:#f9f9f9;border-bottom:solid 20px #5c0b7c;padding:20px;width:100%;text-align:justify;font-family:verdana;font-size:10px;color:#222;[/newclass] [newclass=.oppost b]font-weight:bold;color:#5c0b7c;[/newclass]

For the most part, Robin loved her work.[break][break]
She arrived by nine o'clock every day (except for Sunday due to the library being closed) and stayed until a little after five in the evening, and that routine worked wonderfully for her. The island felt like a sleepy little town most of the time, and because of that, the library never became that overwhelmingly busy. Sure, some people came in and spent hours on the computer browsing the internet or playing games, but that was probably the most anyone stayed. Except for the occasional student who curled up in a dark corner to cram in.[break][break]
Or that one time when those two wanted to see just how much she was paying attention to the so-called 'stacks.' Ugh, that experience she hoped not to repeat again too soon. Or ever. Ever worked as well![break][break]
But the library on that day was... well, perfectly clear, empty. Deader than dead. And while there was plenty of work to be done cleaning, organizing, and cataloging, the lazy bug bit her rear and kept her rooted in place. All she wanted to do was snooze away the time until she left for the day. Another repeat of the previous weekend with some 'friends' and alcohol didn't sound all that bad if it helped chase away her boredom.[break][break]
No, no! Move around! Exercise! Do something! Anything![break][break]
"Is there anything I can help you with, miss?" Fate smiled down upon the white-haired woman. The female browsing appeared to be younger by a few years (if she were to take a guess) and seemed a bit lost in her own little world. Common occurrence when surrounded by books, oh yes.[break][break]
Putting on her best 'look at me I can be professional' smile, Robin tipped her head to the side. "Is there something in particular you're looking for?"[break][break]

[attr="class,"oppost"] Inevitably, Hanako jumped at the voice at her side, looking towards the source with a mixture of surprise and a little terror. It soon passed, as her sudden movement nearly caused her to drop her book, and she scrabbled to both catch it and her balance. Hanako managed to make an expression that was apologetic, sheepish, and apprehensive simultaneously, and her brain was finally beginning to catch up to her ears. "U-Um... maybe..." A moment passed, and Hanako held the book up as an explanation and a shield. "I want... something different th-than this. B-But these b-books..." There were many things Hanako wished she could change, but her stammering, unsure and uneven mode of speech was one of them. It sounded like she was forcing words out, both not wanting to say them, and desperate to be clearly understood. Hanako shook her head, still unwilling to make eye contact. "I-I've either r-read them a-already, o-or I don't know the author." She wanted to add 'or they don't seem to be any good,' but she simply ended her sentence oddly, clearly having more to say, but instead just pressing her lips together. If she couldn't make friends with a librarian, things were looking fairly bleak. Her heart sank again; as nice as a lot of aspects of this island were, she wanted to go back to Yamaku. Hanako's eyes briefly flitted up to the librarian's face, before returning to the shelves. Her lips were parted, as though she wanted to say something, but, even after several moments, no words were forthcoming. @robin Notes: Headbutt walls, cure boredom.[newclass=.optop]background-color:#5c0b7c;width:500px;padding:30px 20px 30px 20px;[/newclass] [newclass=.oplyrics]font-family:courier new;font-size:8px;color:#fff;padding:10px 15px 10px 0px;border-right:solid 1px #fff;text-align:right;text-transform:uppercase;[/newclass] [newclass=.optext]font-family:arial;font-size:30px;font-weight:bold!important;text-transform:lowercase;color:#fff;letter-spacing:-3px;margin-left:10px;[/newclass] [newclass=.oppost]background-color:#f9f9f9;border-bottom:solid 20px #5c0b7c;padding:20px;width:100%;text-align:justify;font-family:verdana;font-size:10px;color:#222;[/newclass] [newclass=.oppost b]font-weight:bold;color:#5c0b7c;[/newclass]

The book lifted -- Frankenstein -- wasn't one she expected to see. Robin blinked owlishly, a low 'ooooh' escaping her. "You've got good taste, miss. Most people that come in here are either looking at the new books only or need to do research projects on ones like that." Which could be the case as well. Nothing wrong with mixing pleasure and business together, right? Right.[break][break]
Thoughtfully, the white-haired woman took a moment to glance around. The size of the library left plenty to be desired, and while there were tons of books stacked carefully on the shelves, it didn't offer the greatest variety for entertaining reads. And that was saying something, seeing as how she already read through what felt like half of them herself in the span of a few weeks.[break][break]
"What are you interested in? Is there a certain genre you favor more than others?" If the girl's struggle with stuttering bothered her in the slightest, it wasn't something she let on. Instead, she simply kept a patient smile on her face, and gave the dark-haired female her undivided attention.[break][break]
It beat rolling around on the floor groaning about boredom.

[attr="class,"oppost"] "I-I read... a l-lot of different things..." Hanako said non-committedly. She was hardly ashamed of her reading - quite the opposite - but, still, she hardly felt like admitting that she had spent a sizable portion of her youth simply reading. "I d-don't read much, um... h-horror, s-so I th-thought I-I'd try this." It was an old work, one of the defining pieces of not just gothic horror, but horror in general. At least, that's what she had read. At least it was nice to discuss books again. Not to the same degree to which she was used to, with Yuuko and Lily, but sometimes it was nice to know that her little world wasn't completely isolated. "I-I was looking f-for something... um... lighter." It went without saying that Frankenstein - was a dark, and likely depressing, read. Having something lighter, maybe even humorous, would provide much-needed contrast. Hanako's eyes flitted across the room, and briefly rested on Robin's face before staring blankly at a portion of the shelf. "D-Do you have... a recommendation? I-It doesn't h-have to b-be new..." Re-reading a book was sometimes a good thing to do, especially with the more dense or complex reads. Though she wasn't going to be tackling War and Peace again anytime soon, that was for sure. @robin Notes: Not if your head is tougher than the walls. Then you need to fix walls.[newclass=.optop]background-color:#5c0b7c;width:500px;padding:30px 20px 30px 20px;[/newclass] [newclass=.oplyrics]font-family:courier new;font-size:8px;color:#fff;padding:10px 15px 10px 0px;border-right:solid 1px #fff;text-align:right;text-transform:uppercase;[/newclass] [newclass=.optext]font-family:arial;font-size:30px;font-weight:bold!important;text-transform:lowercase;color:#fff;letter-spacing:-3px;margin-left:10px;[/newclass] [newclass=.oppost]background-color:#f9f9f9;border-bottom:solid 20px #5c0b7c;padding:20px;width:100%;text-align:justify;font-family:verdana;font-size:10px;color:#222;[/newclass] [newclass=.oppost b]font-weight:bold;color:#5c0b7c;[/newclass]

Something lighter? There were plenty of books that fit that category when being put up against Frankstein. Biting the tip of her tongue briefly, the white-haired woman put on her best contemplative expression before gesturing for the younger female to follow her.
She moved with relative ease, peeking down aisles occasionally to see if it was the right one. No, not that one, and not that one either. Which meant it was-- yes, yes, that one. Of course. She'd known that from the start, really.
"A Wizard of Earthsea. Fantasy is my favorite genre, and as much as it pains me, not enough people have heard of this series. It's too 'old' for them." Robin's face contorted in obvious displeasure.
"There's five main books in the series and a lot of supplementary material, in case that is something you're interested in." She offered the book toward her. "My second 'go to' is Pride and Prejudice, but that's a bit more hit and miss."

[attr="class,"oppost"] "Wizard of Earthsea..." It seemed that, when she was muttering to herself, her voice wasn't plagued by stuttering and awkward pauses. Hanako thought on the name for a while, and gave a small, apologetic smile to Robin, briefly making eye contact before returning her gaze to the book in question. "I-It doesn't s-sound familiar..." Truthfully, she didn't read much fantasy. Most of it was pretty contemporary stuff, and she had been trying to work her way through the literary classics; albeit, the literary classics from a Japanese point of view, which meant more Dazai and less Austen. "B-But I-I'm willing to try it." Hanako nodded, though to herself or to the librarian was unclear. Eyes flicked back up to the other's face, birefly. "Ah... th-thank you... um..."
Names and introductions. She tried her best to be polite and considerate, but a general lack of actually trying to meet new people meant it was easy to let such things slide. Hanako shifted from foot to foot, then managed a barely audible "...H-Hanako."
She knew it was incomplete, awkward, and invited confusion and misunderstanding. But it was all her nerves would allow, for the moment. @robin Notes: Headbutt the storrrrrrm. The soft, quiet word strained her ears, and she nearly asked for the girl to repeat herself. Bless her lucky stars she didn't as, judging by how the dark-haired female acted, it'd be hard to get her to say it again anyway.
"My name's Robin. It's a pleasure to meet you, Hanako." Like the bathroom ghost, she mentally tacked on in amusement. Famous ghost stories were unforgettable, particularly when it involved a spirit that haunted a bathroom. But, that crossed into horror territory, and it'd be best to avoid it for the time being. Or forever. Either of the two worked well.
"If you aren't in a rush..." She glanced over to the counter, tipping her face toward it. "Would you like a cup of tea and some cookies? There isn't much for me to do right now and it'd be a shame to let a snack go to waste without enjoying it properly."

[attr="class,"oppost"] At least Robin seemed like a fairly normal name. There were a lot of... different people on this island, it seemed. The kinds of people and things she only expected to find in movies, books, anime, and video games. Another thing that made her seem out of place. The offer of tea and cookies gave Hanako some pause, but not to consider if she had the time, as one might think. It was very... nostalgic. It was how she and Lily spent a lot of their time; drinking tea, eating snacks, and playing chess. It was also how she got to know Hisao better. It wasn't really about the conversation, a lot of the time. Just occasional words exchanged in otherwise comfortable silence. "I-If it's n-not a p-problem..." Despite her guarded body language, not helped by occasionally glancing at the entrance, it seemed that the idea was appealing to her. Maybe she was trying to recreate, in some small way, the comforts she had found at Yamaku. Maybe she was just forcing herself to try and make a friend. Even Hanako wasn't entirely sure. Whatever it was, she had to keep reminding herself that the world wasn't going to wait for her forever. She had to do things herself. Or, failing that, have the courage to accept the invitations of others. @robin Notes: I think I'd rather deal with earthquakes than typhoons. Then again, earthquakes are just kinda... normal to me now.[newclass=.optop]background-color:#5c0b7c;width:500px;padding:30px 20px 30px 20px;[/newclass] [newclass=.oplyrics]font-family:courier new;font-size:8px;color:#fff;padding:10px 15px 10px 0px;border-right:solid 1px #fff;text-align:right;text-transform:uppercase;[/newclass] [newclass=.optext]font-family:arial;font-size:30px;font-weight:bold!important;text-transform:lowercase;color:#fff;letter-spacing:-3px;margin-left:10px;[/newclass] [newclass=.oppost]background-color:#f9f9f9;border-bottom:solid 20px #5c0b7c;padding:20px;width:100%;text-align:justify;font-family:verdana;font-size:10px;color:#222;[/newclass] [newclass=.oppost b]font-weight:bold;color:#5c0b7c;[/newclass]

"I make it a point never to ask if it will be a problem," Robin replied with a light chuckle, though something about the words took her back to... somewhere. She could almost feel it if she tried, as if a memory wanted to burst at that moment. Why did it feel so familiar? Had she said something like that to someone else in the past?
No point in dwelling. In the comfort of her small apartment later on, she'd have time for self-reflection and memory grasping. Keep moving forward and never hesitate too long on something that slipped through her fingers like water.
On the notion of water, it didn't take long at all to pour it into mugs. Unfortunately it wasn't real tea, not in her mind at least, since it came from a bottle hidden in a mini fridge next to the computer she had lingered by before approaching the girl in the first place. Ah, she really needed to find a way to get a portable stove top in so she could properly make something!
The cookies, at least, were fresh and still warm, having been picked up only an hour or so ago from a local bakery. On to two napkins they went, making up for the rather lackluster Lipton they were paired with.
"How do you like the island?" Her eyes sparkled with the question. "Are you new here or have you been here for some time? What part of the apartment are you staying in?"

[attr="class,"oppost"] The bottled tea was mildly disappointing, and Hanako was ill-trained to hide that fact. It wasn't like she was going to ask for "real" tea, or anything like that; it was just that the cool, premade tea didn't have the same depth or complexity of flavour. Then again, maybe she had just been spoiled by her and Lilly's rather diverse assortment of teas. Hanako hoped that Lilly and Hisao still met in that room for tea and chess. Even if that particular comfort was nothing more than a bittersweet memory for her now. The cookies, on the other hand, were regarded with a lot more interest. She hadn't had access to freshly baked goods in... well, in a long time. She murmured a thanks before nibbling at one of the cookies, clearly taking her time to savour it. "N-Not too long. A c-couple of months." The less said of her initial arrival, the better. Not that she could remember much of it clearly, anyway. "I s-stay i-in the... um, M-Moon Block." It was alright, really. The small apartment wasn't really so different than her dorm in Yamaku; just a bit bigger, with more appliances and responsibility. Not that her rather spartan abode required much in the way of maintenance. Her eyes darted around the room once more, and Hanako shifted in her seat. "I-it's b-been... um... d-difficult, to be h-honest. N-Not bad, b-but..." She trailed off, clearly reluctant to provide details at this point. She then looked to Robin in askance, before returning the question. "H-How about you, um, R-Robin?"@robin Notes: Glad to know you're mostly okay, doe.[newclass=.optop]background-color:#5c0b7c;width:500px;padding:30px 20px 30px 20px;[/newclass] [newclass=.oplyrics]font-family:courier new;font-size:8px;color:#fff;padding:10px 15px 10px 0px;border-right:solid 1px #fff;text-align:right;text-transform:uppercase;[/newclass] [newclass=.optext]font-family:arial;font-size:30px;font-weight:bold!important;text-transform:lowercase;color:#fff;letter-spacing:-3px;margin-left:10px;[/newclass] [newclass=.oppost]background-color:#f9f9f9;border-bottom:solid 20px #5c0b7c;padding:20px;width:100%;text-align:justify;font-family:verdana;font-size:10px;color:#222;[/newclass] [newclass=.oppost b]font-weight:bold;color:#5c0b7c;[/newclass]

Another resident of the moon block, was she? Robin took a bite of her cookie, chewing thoughtfully for a long moment before letting out a pleased hum. "I've been here for about that long as well," 'I think' was mentally tacked on to the end of that statement. In reality, she could've been there much longer. Had she, perhaps, been born there? So many questions lost in the depths of her closed mind. The lack of memories weighed down heavily.
Another bite of cookie and drink of lackluster tea. Yes, she'd most definitely have to talk about changing that in the future. The things she prepared in her kitchen were a great deal better than what she currently sipped on.
"Getting this job was one of the first things I did. I wanted to make my apartment feel more... like a home, I suppose. I'm on my way to accomplishing that, I think." The four room abode suited her quite well. With the combined living room and dining room being close to the kitchen, and her bedroom at the end of the hall, it was small and cozy, only having a (rather lavish) bathroom added to it. She did enjoy the layout of that room in particular, if for no other reason than a window let plenty of natural light inside of it.
"Oh, I live there as well. In moon block." The warmth returned to her voice. "The very first apartment when you walk inside. Double zero one, that's me."

[attr="class,"oppost"] Making an apartment a home, huh...? Hanako shifted in her chair. She understood the appeal of furnishing and decorating one's home, and yet her place remained rather spartan. For better or for worse, all she really had were bare walls and basic furniture. Maybe that said something about her personality? Hanako didn't really want to think about it. "O-Oh. I'm a-also on the first floor." Hanako kept to herself, most of the time. While it was possible that she had passed Robin in the hallway, it was equally possible that her head was down, trying to avoid the attention of her neighbours. Recent experience taught her that adults were much less cruel than children, but that didn't make their attention any more welcome. There was that feeling that Hanako needed to say something, to fill the silence, to continue the conversation. She glanced up at Robin, opened her mouth, closed it again, and finished off her cookie instead. What were you meant to say or do in these situations...? Hopefully Robin would lead the conversation from here. @robin Notes: If it was feasible, I'd send you my semi-borked laptop. It'd be better than nothing, at least. Also talkative Hanako is talkative.[newclass=.optop]background-color:#5c0b7c;width:500px;padding:30px 20px 30px 20px;[/newclass] [newclass=.oplyrics]font-family:courier new;font-size:8px;color:#fff;padding:10px 15px 10px 0px;border-right:solid 1px #fff;text-align:right;text-transform:uppercase;[/newclass] [newclass=.optext]font-family:arial;font-size:30px;font-weight:bold!important;text-transform:lowercase;color:#fff;letter-spacing:-3px;margin-left:10px;[/newclass] [newclass=.oppost]background-color:#f9f9f9;border-bottom:solid 20px #5c0b7c;padding:20px;width:100%;text-align:justify;font-family:verdana;font-size:10px;color:#222;[/newclass] [newclass=.oppost b]font-weight:bold;color:#5c0b7c;[/newclass]
