dazai is... well, dazai. you‘ll probably see a big, goofy grin on his face most of the time, and he‘ll strike you as a relatively friendly guy. (unless you like, see him floating down the river, trying to commit suicide. then you'll probably think he's weird.) deep down, though, dazai is definitely not a happy-go-lucky man. his life was (and is) based on the question ‚what‘s my purpose/what‘s my reason to live.‘ and the fact he doesn‘t know the answer to it (and by now knows there isn‘t any) is pretty much destroying him. [break][break]

his inner/deeper thoughts are usually very grim. he beats himself up over thinking and dwelling upon such stuff (because other human beings don‘t seem to bother too much about it; do not think about it) and in most cases in the past, didn‘t understand why people lived their life the way they lived it. basically, no matter what he would try to do, he never felt like he's a part of a human society. (even if/when he puts up a mask of a cheerful dork who jokes about everything and appears to be lazy at all times, it never feels right.) he‘s pretty terrified of humans altogether (he just won‘t show it). he has quite some past behind himself. at one point he was a member of the organization named port mafia; under his teacher‘s (mori‘s) guidance he learned how to use logic for basically anything. (though even with logic, he couldn‘t solve the biggest mystery of life... sigh.) he was pretty ruthless back then, he killed many people for the good of the mafia, and was, for a short while, very ambitious. however, even that fell flat/he got bored of it very fast. he was also the youngest executive member in port mafia's history (i think he rose up to that position when he was 16.) he‘s observant, smart and can, to a certain degree, predict future events. it‘s really hard to hide the truth from him because he‘s quick enough to figure out when people are lying to him. which... makes him a very valuable private investigator, despite him seeming incredibly lazy and dumb at times. he will try to toss these aside for a little bit in this world though; see if normal life as a cafe worker even works out for him somehow. x) [break][break]

fair warning that he is a suicide maniac, and a part of me strongly believes he truly wants to die at some point in the future, but he‘s either too afraid to do it, or always searching for another excuse to live on. he‘s also quite picky with the way he wants to die in. (he doesn‘t want it to be painful, he doesn‘t want to bleed out, or like. cripple himself and stuff.) so i‘d imagine that‘ll throw some people off, but overall he will hide his depressed self, try to continue to fool people around him, and pretend that everything‘s fine. he‘s terrified of being figured out. as long as you can put up with his laziness, attitude of a troll (he will literally try to make your life a living hell sometimes) and occasional random phone calls in which he‘ll explain to you that "he‘s dying and he needs your help because he chose the wrong method and it hurts." (rip. it really did happen once), you‘ll be fine. i mean. he has that aura that draws you to him regardless of his quirks, and he can be really easy to get along if a person just gives him a chance. plus, dazai needs friends! though there is sadly no guarantee he‘s going to think of you that way. he‘s likely going to view people who everyone would call 'friends‘ as people who he‘s drawn to. basically, if you‘re an intriguing human being, he‘s going to take a liking to you. however, there will be times when he‘ll get serious, and that‘s when the traces of his inner self come to life. he stores a lot of knowledge within himself, (i mean, i headcanon he reads a lot) and that will be very valuable to anyone who befriends him. but overall, i think, he‘s going to be goofing around and enjoy making people pissed off and upset. xD [break][break]

i definitely would love to see BSD crew/armed detective agency kids here, too? those people were probably the closest to friends for him so he's pretty lost without them around and stuff. ;~; [break][break]

uhh. this one is tricky. there is a saying in the light novel, that „the misfortune of dazai’s enemies is to have dazai as their enemy.” first thing worth mentioning is probably that dazai doesn‘t view the world as black and white, he doesn‘t go around defining things as good or evil (unless you're mori, but that one is rather personal), thus he won‘t be completely antagonistic towards those who are bad as long as, of course, there‘s a logical explanation for their actions (and that explanation can be selfish). if you‘re an opponent in his investigations, he is likely going to crush you with his predictions, mind games and setups. so.. try to not get on his bad side. he holds very strong grudges against people who betray him, so please don't do it unless you want to become like ango.[break][break]

aye, he's a flirt, come at him. also if you're willing to double suicide with him, he's going to love you even more. no, but to serious business. [break][break]

the main problem in this department is that while dazai falls in „love” rather quickly, he‘s just as quick to get bored. stable relationships have never really been a thing for him because he isn‘t capable of being with somebody that way. he‘s likely to cheat, ignore, or just break things off without a real explanation and stuff. [break][break]

besides that, his mental state doesn‘t really allow him to properly love anyone if that makes sense. so even when it comes to chuuya, whom he always runs back to (my headcanon is that there was something going on between them prior dazai leaving port mafia) it is going to be a long road before he finds out how exactly to show what he feels, and how to embrace those feelings despite being such a mess of a human being. i'm a pretty big soukoku shipper so... yeah, there's that too. BUT because i am a filthy multishipper, too, i‘m going to state down that i do adore oda as a potential partner to dazai (though in most cases, dazai may view him more as a ‚father‘ than a lover). i also ship him with kunikida, akutagawa and atsushi, so those are also the options/please don‘t be shy and hit me up if you want to try them out?? we can do these in aus, most likely? bottom line is, though, that he‘s likely going to be taken by his redheaded angry petit mafia partner and... despite him not being completely sure what his emotions towards chuuya are, that‘s who his heart will navigate towards all the time.
